CHE Announces Funding Awards

Following a review of 25 applications, the Board of Trustees of the Community Health Endowment (CHE) is pleased to announce funding for eight projects, representing $189,826 in funding over the next year and $319,235 in total funding over the next three years. With this announcement, CHE will have granted $848,046 in FY2012/13. CHE will fund approximately $1.2 million more in this fiscal year, for a total of more than $2 million in FY2012/13. Priorities for the next grant cycle will be announced by November 1, 2012, with proposals due January 4, 2013. New grants are:

• Obtain national expertise and consultation regarding a new emergency shelter model. (Friendship Home: $8,571)
• Support a Community Breastfeeding Initiative to establish community-wide policies and education. (Lancaster County Medical Society: $15,000)
• Provide fall prevention education and training to older adults. (Aging Partners: $25,800 in Year 1; $7,258 in Year 2; and $5,341 in Year 3)
• Assist in the construction and renovation of Bryan Health Independence and Counseling Centers. (Bryan Health Foundation: $50,000)
• Assist in the purchase of a van used to transport children receiving therapy in the Extended Day Treatment Program. (Child Guidance Center: $20,000)
• Purchase medical/dental supplies, equipment, laboratory, specialty services, and medications for volunteer-based health clinics. (Clinic with a Heart: $10,000 in Year 1; $10,000 in Year 2; and $10,000 in Year 3)
• Support a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor to provide care through the Many Nations Intensive Outpatient Counseling Program. (Indian Center, Inc.: $15,000)
• Add public dental health clinic services on Thursday evenings. (Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department: $45,455 in year 1; $47,395 in year two; and $49,415 in year three)
