Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

In May of 2022, the CHE Board of Trustees approved the following Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Policy to re-confirm our commitment to tackling complex social determinants of health and the resulting health inequities and disparities.

CHE is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in what we do and how we do it. We view this as an ongoing commitment to make us a better funder and partner.

Although CHE has financial resources, we believe that we cannot simply spend our way to health and economic equity. Deep change, resulting from transformative leadership, reimagined systems/services, collaboration with all communities, and accountability to local data, will be needed to successfully leverage resources and advance health equity. CHE defines health equity as “the state in which everyone has a fair and just opportunity to attain their highest level of health” (Centers for Disease Control, Office of Health Equity, 2023).

CHE is committed to:

  • Using data to identify and positively impact health inequities and disparities in Lincoln, Nebraska
  • Creating and leading opportunities for external and internal education, conversations, and engagement regarding health inequities and disparities
  • Supporting funding priorities and decisions that have the potential to address health inequities and disparities

This policy will be reviewed no less than annually by the CHE Board of Trustees, with revisions made when necessary to support the primary goal of promoting health equity. Any revisions to this policy will require approval by the CHE Board of Trustees.
